This is not a new thesis from the perennial gold bug, but the framing has shifted. He is no longer arguing that Bitcoin is worthless. He is arguing that AI will make it obsolete.

The statement is heavy on narrative and light on mechanics. Schiff provides no data, no model, and no technical pathway for how AI displaces a decentralized monetary network. What he offers is a substitution thesis: AI will capture the capital, the attention, and the energy that currently flows into Bitcoin. It is a compelling story for traditional finance audiences. What has changed is the narrative landscape. AI is the new shiny object. It attracts media attention, venture capital, and retail speculation. Bitcoin is no longer the most exciting story in tech. That is a psychological shift, not a technical one. Investors who bought Bitcoin because it was "the future" may be tempted to rotate into AI stocks. But investors who bought Bitcoin as a hedge against monetary debasement have no reason to sell.

The Only Signal That Matters Is On-Chain Accumulation.

My framework for evaluating this kind of threat is simple. I ignore the headlines and watch the wallets. When large holders start moving Bitcoin to exchanges, I pay attention. When exchange reserves increase and spot prices stagnate, I worry. When miners start selling their holdings to fund GPU purchases, I reassess. None of that is happening.

What I see instead is continued accumulation. Long-term holders are not selling. The supply of Bitcoin on exchanges is declining. The average holding period is increasing. This is the behavior of an asset that is being treated as a store of value, not a speculative tech stock. AI may capture the narrative, but it is not capturing the balance sheets.

The Takeaway: Stop Confusing Attention With Adoption.
